Worship at First Lutheran

You are most welcome at our services and activities.  Please don't stand on ceremony, we are a pretty relaxed group.  Any of us will be glad to answer questions you may have, and our office may be reached by phone at (925) 671-9942 or email at This email address is being protected from spambots. Our Sunday Worship Service starts at 9:30 am.

  • Holy Communion is offered each service.
  • Children are invited to Sunday School during services after a Children's Message shared prior to the Sermon.
  • Children under the age of 3 are invited to stay in the nursery (located adjacent to the education room) with a qualified volunteer. A vibrating pager will be given to the parent for any needs which may arise.
  • Nursing mothers and mothers of infants are also invited to use the nursery if they should so choose for their own comfort or privacy.

Lutheran Christians have a rich history of song and active participation in their worship.  If you aren't familiar with our order of worship (liturgy), please feel comfortable and welcome to simply sit and enjoy our friendship and prayers.

Traditional services follow an order of worship from the recently published Lutheran Service Book.  A bulletin is given to each person as they arrive that contains all the songs, Bible readings, and the like that will be used in the service.  Any of us are glad to answer questions you may have about our worship and our family at First Lutheran.

  • Visitors should in no way feel obligated to contribute during our offerings; offerings are collected as a way for our confirmed members to join in supporting the ministry.
  • If you haven't taken Holy Communion with us before, please read our statement of belief about this Sacrament and talk with the Pastor or one of our Elders before partaking.  We offer both a common cup with white wine and individual cups with either white wine or red grape juice. If you would like a gluten-free wafer, please talk to the pastor before the service.

Past First Lutheran Church worship service sermons are available online for your listening pleasure, but were suspended two years ago after our previous Pastor, Rev. Jed Maschke, accepted a Call to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Carson City, NV.

First Lutheran Church offers online giving as an option for our members.

We use the Simply Giving program from Vanco Services, endorsed by but not part of Thrivent Federal Credit Union.  This highly secure and private method of making a contribution or offering to the church is offered at no charge to contributors and families.

While we welcome and encourage children to attend Worship, Nursery services are available in our Preschool building for small children.  Your child will be supervised and cared for by a responsible volunteer member of the church, either an adult or older trained youth.

Each child is registered into the Nursery, and may only be released to the person leaving them at the Nursery or someone they designate.  You may visit or remove your child at any time with knowledge of the Nursery attendant; and you will be given a pager when you drop your child off so we may easily contact you in case of an emergency or question.

The Lord's Supper is celebrated at this congregation in the confession and glad confidence that, as He says, our Lord gives into our mouths not only bread and wine but His very body and blood to eat and to drink for the forgiveness of sins and to strengthen our union with Him and with one another.

Our Lord invites to His table those who trust in His Words, repent of all sin, and set aside any refusal to forgive and love as He forgives and loves us, that they may show forth His death until He comes.

Because those who eat and drink our Lord's body and blood unworthily do so to their great harm and because Holy Communion is a confession of the faith which is confessed at this altar, any who are not yet instructed, in doubt, or who hold a confession differing from that of this congregation and The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, and yet desire to receive the Sacrament, are asked first to speak with the Pastor or an elder.

For further study, you are invited to see

  • Matthew 5:23 and following; 10:32 and following; 18:15-35; 26:26-29
  • I Corinthians 11:17-34

Children are invited to come forward for a blessing.

Children and teachers of our preschool meet for a brief Chapel in the church each Tuesday and Thursday, and you are VERY WELCOME to come worship with your child.

Chapel for Lambs and Frogs (our younger classes) is 9:30-9:45 each Tuesday; Chapel for Cubs, Doves and Pre-K (our older children) is 9:30-9:45 each Thursday.

Please contact the Preschool for more information.
