Like to sing, swing a handbell, strum a guitar? Music is a HUGE part of our worship and activities at First Lutheran ... and we'd love to have you join us. Experience and "talent" is definitely NOT a prerequisite for any of our groups ... we are just here to make "joyful noise" to our Lord.
Our key music programs are summarized on this page. Please take a look and talk with our Music Director, Karen Conran, or any of our members to learn more and to get involved.
First Lutheran Church's adult choir rehearses Thursday evenings (September to June) from 6:00 to 7:00 in the sanctuary.
We do a variety of choral literature ranging from Bach to Townend/Getty and sing at service about twice a month. The ability to read music is not a requirement to be in the choir (although you certainly won't be turned away if you can).
All are welcome to join us as we raise our voices in praise of our God and Savior.
Our church is fortunate enough to have three octaves of Verdun/Malmark handbells and two octaves of Suzuki hand chimes.
The ringers rehearse Thursday evenings (September to June) from 7:15 to 8:15 in the church's education room and play for service about once a month.
No prior experience is necessary – we can teach you everything from reading music to correctly holding the bells – but one does usually need to be at least 13 or 14 years old to ring.
Come join us and learn the fun of ringing as we make sweet music for our Lord.
No Time to Commit to a Group on a Regular Basis? Special Music May be Your Answer
We realize that people's lives are pulled in many different directions and that joining a group on a regular basis may be impossible. First Lutheran Church also offers Special Music where singers or instrumentalists may choose to call the Music Director (or the Church Office – the Music Director will then call you) and arrange to share their musical gifts with the congregation on an occasional basis – one that fits into their schedules.
Praise our Lord as a soloist or in a small group; all are welcome.
The First Lutheran Church organ is a charming small two manual tracker instrument built by the Werner Bosch Co. of Germany, in 1965. It was originally a practice instrument at Christ College in Oakland (now with Concordia University, Irvine), and was installed at First Lutheran in September of 1973.
First Evangelical Lutheran Church is a member of the California-Nevada-Hawaii District of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, a family of congregations focused on bringing Christ to the nations and sharing His unconditional saving Love within our community. |
